Social Media

Whether you prefer Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Pinterest, Snapchat or another, social or messaging media has become a new easy way of communicating and keeping in touch with others.

As I’m well into my fourth year living in Italy, I’ve become more reliant on social media to keep in touch with my family and friends in the USA.  A 6 hour time difference is not always easy to coordinate for meaningful talks on the phone.    Even though date and time calls are planned, things come up and the ease of just calling a family or a friend in the USA is limited on a moment’s notice.

Social media is a great way to keep us all connected in our busy lives to update each other with a photo and a few words that doesn’t take much time. Plus, it’s free (with wifi) and we can even make phone calls on these channels for which I’m definitely grateful.

A “like” or brief comment shows that others are still a part of our lives when we don’t have much time for more.  It’s about sharing with others and them being a part of our happiness, sadness or whatever we post in the moment.  I’ve come to rely on that at times to keep me connected to my family and friends at a distance.

What are your thoughts on social media and how has it changed your life?
