How to roll your R in Italian

How to roll your R in Italian

Learning to roll an R is a learned skill. The rolled R is used when pronouncing words in many languages. Depending upon the language, the R sound is made with different movements of the mouth and positions of the tongue.

It is referred to as trilled or flipped.  Flipped is basically a shorter version of trilled.  Generally a double R is trilled.

In some cultures, the trilled R is learned at school at an early age as it is deep rooted in many languages such as Italian and Spanish.

Moreover, without a rolled R, some words completely change their meaning if pronounced improperly such as sera (evening) and serra (greenhouse)

Some English words that are helpful in learning how to trill the R are dracula, butter and ladder.

Some people find it very difficult to roll their tongue to make the rrrrrrr sound while others find it quite easy.

Can you roll your Rs?  What tips would you add?
